A Catalan engineer, writer, and politician, he earned his PhD in Industrial Engineering in 1974. Since 1971, he has been a professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, with the exception of the period from 1979 to 1983, when he served as the first democratic mayor of Sant Joan Despí for the PSUC. From 1995 to 2013, he was the president of the Baix Llobregat Regional Studies Center, and since 2013, he has been leading the Collective for a New Social and Sustainable Energy Model (CMES). He has authored 14 textbooks on mechanical engineering and 3 books in the field of energy.

An economist from UNAM with a Master’s in Government and Public Policy, as well as a Master’s in Compliance from the University of Salamanca, his professional focus is on governance processes and the harmonization of development agendas. He serves as a professor in undergraduate and graduate programs at various Mexican universities and the Central American Institute of Public Administration. Additionally, he has been a speaker, facilitator, and moderator at numerous international conferences, bringing an interdisciplinary perspective to his contributions.

Leonardo Massone is the Technical Manager of Idiem and a Full Professor at the Universidad de Chile. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Universidad de Chile and his Master’s and PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles. He teaches courses on reinforced concrete design and nonlinear structural analysis, among others, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His research interests include analytical and experimental studies of reinforced concrete systems, with a focus on seismic response. He has authored over 60 papers indexed in WoS (Web of Science). He has received both national and international recognitions, including the 2014 award from the Instituto de Ingenieros de Chile, the “Young Professor Best Paper Award” at the 36th Conference on Deep Foundations (USA, 2011), the “Best Paper Award” at the 10th International Congress on Advances in Civil Engineering (Turkey, 2012), and another from the journal Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings (USA, 2017). He was ranked in the top 2% of the world’s most cited researchers in 2022 and 2024, according to the University of Stanford and Elsevier. He served as Head of the Civil Engineering Department from 2014 to 2018, and since 2023 has been the Technical Manager of Idiem. He was a voting member of the ACI 318 committee for the 2019 version and is currently the Technical Secretary of the Chilean reinforced concrete structures standard, NCh430.

Prof. Ricardo Herrera is a civil engineer from the Universidad de Chile and holds a Ph.D. from Lehigh University, United States. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, specializing in the fields of Structures, Construction, and Geotechnics.
His primary areas of research focus on seismic design in steel and the experimental study of structures. Over the course of his career, Prof. Herrera has held several key administrative positions, including Head of the Structures-Geotechnics Division, elected member of the Faculty and Departmental Councils, and Director of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Universidad de Chile.

Currently, he serves as a researcher in CITRID, the University of Chile’s Risk and Disaster Reduction Program, contributing to advancements in the mitigation of risks and disasters through his expertise in structural engineering.

He holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences with a specialization in Sustainable Development from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. He is a specialist in Macroeconomics (Pontifical Catholic University of Chile), University Management (OEI-Spain), and Human Talent Management (INDEG-UTPL). He is also an economist from the Technical University of Loja (UTPL), Ecuador. With 15 years of experience as a university professor and researcher in undergraduate and graduate programs, he has expertise in areas such as economics, sustainable development, rural development, sustainability innovation, the circular economy, environmental management, knowledge management, and development. He currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at UTPL and holds the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Development for the region (www.catedraunescods.org).

Addressing Data Imbalance in Wind Power Plant Datasets: AI Approaches

An engineer specialized in artificial intelligence, with experience in data analysis for wind power plants. He is proficient in energy forecasting, fault detection and classification, and handling data imbalance using advanced AI techniques. As a doctoral researcher, he develops algorithms for traffic optimization using simulators such as SUMO and programs in Python. Previously, he worked as a data engineer, implementing predictive models and machine learning techniques to enhance efficiency and safety in wind power generation. He holds a degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering and is currently pursuing a PhD in Engineering, focusing on practical applications of artificial intelligence. His key skills include machine learning, deep learning, data analysis, and traffic simulation.

Carlos Gordon is a Research Professor at the Universidad Técnica de Ambato, Ecuador, where he has been serving since 2005. He holds a Master’s degree in Networks and Telecommunications from the Universidad Técnica de Ambato, a PhD in Electrical, Electronic, and Automation Engineering from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from the Universidad Técnica de Ambato. His research focuses on semiconductor short pulse laser systems and robotics, contributing significantly to these fields through his academic work and publications.

The potential of Machine Learning for preventive maintenance of wind turbines

An Electronic Engineer (University of Azuay, 2017) with a Master’s in Intelligent Systems in Energy and Transport, specializing in Smart Cities (University of Seville, Spain), and a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence (University of La Rioja, 2024), she currently teaches in the Automotive Engineering program, providing instruction in basic engineering sciences, electronics, and automatic control. In 2019, she was part of the SOLUM team in Seville, a company dedicated to solar energy-based applications, where she excelled in the development of software and hardware products. Her areas of interest include data analysis (Data Mining), the development and application of Machine Learning algorithms, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Renewable Energies. She is proficient in software such as Python, RStudio, and Matlab.

Renewable energy opportunities and weaknesses: a comparison between Ecuador and Croatia

PhD, an Associate Professor of Thermodynamics and Energy at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Rijeka, Croatia, also serves as Head of the Laboratory for Thermal Measurements. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, including Thermodynamics I, Thermodynamics II, Energy Conversion and Management, Gas Engineering, and Renewable Energy. His research focuses on Low-Carbon Technologies, Renewable Energy, Zero-Energy Buildings, and the Computational Analysis of Heat and Mass Transfer. He has published more than 50 scientific articles in international journals and conference proceedings. He is a member of the Reviewer Boards of the journals Energies, Processes, Sustainability, and Buildings. As Guest Editor, he has overseen four Special Issues in the journals Processes, Energies, and Sustainability. He received the Outstanding Reviewer Award from the journals Buildings (2022) and Processes (2023).

The Performance Ratio of a Photovoltaic System — An Assessment of Efficiency

An Electronic and Telecommunications Engineer from the Technical University of Loja (UTPL) with a Master’s in Electromechanics from the National University of Loja, he was awarded a scholarship and later graduated with honors with a PhD in Photovoltaic Solar Energy from the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 2018. With over 15 years of experience in university teaching, he is currently a tenured professor at the National University of Loja. He has led research projects related to renewable energies, particularly photovoltaic systems, and has contributed to the publication of several scientific articles in this field.
